[solved] V41 and Virtual HP-IL
Since it appears that a real HP-IL + PIL-box is outside my price range I thought I might try the next best thing, and use V41 with Virtual HP-IL. Is there any way to get V41 to communicate through virtual HP-IL to the software here: https://hp.giesselink.com/hpil.htm ? If so, how might I go about configuring the systems?
Thanks! |

RE: V41 and Virtual HP-IL
After some digging, I finally understand the HP-IL concept and Virtual HP-IL makes much more sense. I was able to get it all hooked up and functional. There must be a loop back to the in port on the HP-41. For those new to Virtual HP-IL,
1) ALT + SPACE to get the menu for the ports 2) each ILxxx interface must port must be sequential for instance Device (OUT PORT NUMBER / IN PORT NUMBER / (if applicable Printer Port)) HP-41 (60001/60000) ILScope (60002/60001) ILBlinky (60000/60002/62000) HP82240B (62000) |->HP-41-(60001)->ILSCOPE-(60002)->ILBlinky|->(62000)->HP82240B |-----------------------------------(60000)<-| |

RE: [solved] V41 and Virtual HP-IL
Most of us have been there at some point, and then when you once again see it's called the HP-IL Interface LOOP, we casually look around to see if anyone noticed that we hadn't noticed the... well you understand I'm sure.

RE: [solved] V41 and Virtual HP-IL
An other interesting HP-IL configuration use case is with the HP82169 HPIL/HPIB interface in translator mode.
Actually, the 82169 translator mode was a model for the development of the PIL-Box: messages passing in both directions, controller on either side. The PIL-Box core was first called "HP-IL to serial translator". J-F |

Thanks for posting the images as attachments. Indeed nice images to explain HP-IL, and also emphasize that more than 1 or 2 devices on the loop are supported and work fine, a common misconception --Bob Prosperi |

RE: [solved] V41 and Virtual HP-IL
I don't see the tiff images inline on Mac/Firefox, and when I download using the links it pops up a warning dialog about possible security problems and you have to force it to complete the download. Sheesh.

Sheesh. That is just Firefox being parental this will happen when you try to download anything that is not coming from a secure ie HTTPS protocol server, it would seem that these days Firefox assumes that if the server is not using a secure protocol it must certainly be a threat to the entire internet. Chrome on Linux does not seem to have any issue with opening those links. You will also have trouble with links that use the old unsecure ftp protocol. Paul. |
