991ES Plus (2nd Edition) help, please
Hi all.

I’ve tried resetting the calc a couple of times. I can’t get to the second page of the MODE operation which has INEQ(uality), VERIF(y), or DIST(ribution) options.

What am I missing? Why the glitch? Please help.

Thank you.

RE: 991ES Plus (2nd Edition) help, please
These calculation modes are not part of mentioned calculator. This model of calc has 8 calculation mode- comp, cmplx, stat, base-n, eqn, matrix, table, vector.

You need a canadian version

Okay. So, I recently purchased both the 991ES Plus Jr. and the 115 Jr. Yes, the second edition. I already bought the first version 115ES Plus well over three years ago. So, in that sense, I'm covered.

Here's the mixup: In the 'box' for my 115 1st ed, 2nd ed., and my 991ES Plus 2nd ed. the manual in each 'box' came with the combo manual for the right 115 versions, but it also included the 991ES Plus C in the title.

It was when I looked up 991ES plus 2nd edition (no C) on Casio's website that I was able to find and download the 991ES Plus (not C [yes, I know what that sounds like]).

Because the included manual stated the Plus C model, I thought the C didn't matter and it would still pertain to my 991 ES Plus.

I later found and downloaded the dual manual for the second editions of the 115 and 991.

I can see that the manual was pertinent to my 115 2nd. It's confusing that my 991 would come with the manual for the 115ES Plus 1st & 2nd and 991ES Canadian since I live in the US.

Now I'm curious. Besides the 115ES Plus, What US model would be equivalent to the Canadian 991ES Plus C?

Also, what Casio model is the next step up from the 115ES Plus 2nd & Canadian 991ES Plus?

You got me! Thanks for the refresher to my OP. Although, I'm still wondering what's the next step up from the Second Editions of the 115ES Plus and 991ES Plus.

RE: 991ES Plus (2nd Edition) help, please
Yes the fx-115 and fx-991 model numbers have been used for many different Casio calculators over the years. One reason they probably keep reusing them is because the numbers are approved on a number of standardized tests. For example the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, offered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) approves only a small number of Casio, HP and TI calculator models for the exam.

“The NCEES approves all fx-115 and fx-991 models for use on its exams. Their policy states that “any Casio calculator must have ‘fx-115 ‘ or ‘fx-991’ in its model name.””

Sadly the two approved HP models (HP 33s and HP 35s) are no longer in production.

There are no other equivalents to those models unless there is a non-solar model with the same functionality that I'm not aware of. Well, the 2nd editions are equivalent to the first editions apart from cosmetics and some updates to the CODATA constants.

That would be the 991EX and non-solar 570EX (and their international variants), although some features from the 115ES Plus and 991ES Plus C are missing from the 991EX/570EX.

I’ve got the 991EX, so I’m set. Since I have both editions of the 115ES Plus, I’m
set, too. Plus, you guessed it, I also have the 991ES Plus 2nd Edition. So, I’m set there as well.

Now, another question:

How do these Casios compare to Sharp’s EL-W516T and X as well as TI’s 36X Pro and 30X MathPrint?

I do not know much about the Sharps. Sorry!

There may be a few features that the Casio has over the TI-36X Pro, TI-30X Pro MultiView and TI-30X Pro MathPrint, but the big advantage the TIs have over the Casios is that they do not forget stuff such as the calculation history or list data when powering off or switching modes. In general, the TIs are far less modal than the Casios. The only modal parts of the TIs are the dialogs for the solvers and the stats calculations, the data lists and table modes. Those dialogs are quit when powering off, but the data and settings are retained.

EDIT: The Spreadsheet mode of the fx-991EX is quite nice and the TIs have no equivalent functionality, but the fact that it all disappears when leaving Spreadsheet mode or powering off is a real bummer.

The CASIO fx-991CEX keeps the statistics data if switched OFF (by user or by automatic power down). I guess all the other Classwiz same. BTW if you change MODE, all data cleared.

Yes, thanks for the correction. It's a shame the Spreadsheet mode loses data after automatic power down. Go away for a few minutes to answer the call of nature, come back and all your work is gone. Noice!

Let me guess. The 991 CEX is only available in Canada and can’t be ordered from Amazon or Casio (even though the TI-30X Pro Mathprint is a UK import) I can purchase that from Amazon.

Peculiar. Or, do you know how I could buy the 991C EX even though I live in the US?

Big Grin
Nope, this is the Central European version of 991EX and can't handle English. Meantime I checked my Classwiz calculators and all of them keeps statistical data if turned OFF.

Maybe the next Casios will feature an Auto-Off delay setting the same as Smartphones have. Well, one can dream.

Not exactly same, but on this Classwiz you can select 10 or 60 mins: Jump to page 7
