Adding: Eniac in action . Interesting articles available.
From there I discovered more about things I heard but not really checked. It is not book but videos that aren't too short or clickbaity are still valuable for me. Differential analyzer playlist built via meccano P1: https://youtu.be/LqTL2JBETzE P2: https://youtu.be/ngCBqduGr1Y P3: https://youtu.be/11jOU1B5cUk P4: https://youtu.be/trTJVJPhQ8g and here how the mechanical integrator (the base unit of the differential analyzer) works: https://youtu.be/s-y_lnzWQjk Wikis are great, Contribute :) |

RE: Request: Books/articles about history of early computing (pre 1950)
When I saw this topic I sprang to my keyboard and registered so that I can point out that The Oughtred Society is a great source for articles about early computing.
Also wanted to mention the Otis King Calculator. The Model L had two logarithmic scales and a linear "L" scale. This arrangement is sufficient to multiply, divide, and calculate arbitrary powers and roots. |
