RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
Got mine today, keyboard works as expected. Feels like the LE without the bouncing. Quite happy :-). Is there a protective foil on the bezel?

Edit:

The sleeve is nice, too. Very soft and structured. Manual can be read without glasses.

It is the same CPU. The firmware was tested on current production HP12c.

Hey, Gerson !

Great, congratulations !! I feel real happy for you, you're in for a very good time !

And quite fast for an international delivery to Brazil, lots of water between Spain and your home country.

Quote:( ¡ Muchas gracias, Señor Divassón ! )

Indeed, those many thanks are fully deserved.

Most people here probably don't realize that José G. Divasson's The Calculator Store is essentially a one- or two-person show, just he and his wife, so they're probably working day and night to ship ASAP the ~ 1,000 HP-15C CE's packages to their anxiously expectant customers (like yourself and me,) properly packaged and using a fast, reliable carrier.

He deserves every credit he gets and more. This is what happens when such sizable operations are in the hands of people who've been enthusiastically and lovingly involved with HP vintage calculators for decades, sparing no effort. Hats off to them.

Quote:[...] I remember he liked it very much while in college, because no one would ever borrow his calculator :-)

I can understand their feelings: most AOS people would never borrow an RPN calculator, and most RPN people would never borrow an abo.. an RPL calculator ... Smile

Best regards and enjoy to the max your HP-15C CE when it arrives next Tuesday. The CE is sure to pleasingly surprise you ! Smile

V.

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
Just received mine next to Paris a few minutes ago from UPS.
I would like to thanks very much José (The Calculator Store) for his fantastic logistic organization. He will need to take some rest after that crazy weeks ;-)

Packaging is more than perfect, bullet-proof, and the 15CE is just amazing :
- CE package is like for a luxury watch box
- OEM vinyl pouch is very good also
- but i got the "special edition José leather pouch" in addition. excellent feel
- The included paper manual is amazing
- Last but not least , the HP15CE feels great, keyboard, screen, printings, speed : all is perfect to me

Thanks very much to all the people involved into that "revival" project !
A must for those still on the fence to order one.

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
Hello all, I just received my 15C CE (#273 => 3 X 7 X 13, which is the product of 2 X 3 X 5 X 7 X 11 X 13).

Excellent keyboard feel, easy-to-read screen, excellent build quality, outstanding, easy-to-read user manual, superb introduction to the 15C CE's "parents"... 1 intense night of use: no keyboard problems, no operating bugs. Superb machine. Thanks to Jose from The Calculator Store. Great job, very friendly and very professional. Hats off to him!

The other one I leave untouced for the time being, if the serial number are consecutive it is eiter #261 or #263 (prime). Let's wait and see how long I can withstand the urge to open it and have a look!

Hi Max. If you plan to keep unit #2 un-opened as a collection-only item, you should open it, once, to remove the batteries, which come installed. Although the likelihood of CR2032 cells leaking is small, no need to take a chance when it is easily avoided. Maybe use gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints on any surface.

And while removing the cells, sneak a peek at the serial number to find out if adjacent. I'm a very active student of WWII Luftwaffe planes and I find S/N 262 very cool. 109 or 190 would be a bit better, 335 or 219 better still, and 152 the best, but they are what they are...

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
Got my CE some 2 hours ago, directly from Spain, thanks José!

Now I need time to explore this new marvel!
Well the 15C I know very well since I got my first one almost 43 years ago, but I just noticed that there are some "hidden" features in the CE ... Smile

Apparently the developers made use of the new hardware and more memory - there seems to be at least 3 different calculators in one package!

I had my weekend planned - now I need time to start mapping the keys to the "HP-16CE" mode and the other one!

Thanks again for the never ending joy these small machines brings along!

Edit: Added photo ...

Cheers,
Thomas

Posted a sticky thread at the top of the General Forum about any hidden things that might be found in the HP-15c CE.

Please read.

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
Yes, read the note from Gene before exploring more.

Finding the calculator mode switch (15 <-> 16) was easy, almost mentioned in the manual ...

Warning: I already had to open the battery compartment to do a hard reset since the calculator "died" using the 16CE-mode.
Can try later to repeat, but I think I entered floating point mode (from HEX), then tried to change radix mode ([ON]/[.]) when the calculator went into deep sleep with display off (haven't tried again).

Hard reset brought it back ... so definitely NOMAS.

Edit: Yes, I could repeat the problem, enter 16CE mode, Float 2, then OFF and then [ON]/[.].
After that I had to do Reset again.
So probably the [ON]/[x] commands doesn't work in the other calculator modes.

Cheers,
Thomas

Found 16C mode, too:-)
However the third mode (15.2 , if this is a mode at all;-) shows a massive different MEM display. If it doesn't have a name already, I'd call it BigMem mode:-)

This is where a good overlay could come handy:

Great!

Yes, saw that too, but so far I haven't checked the BigMem mode yet, so I've only seen the mem-display.
But I noticed that the (really) high number decreased when I entered a small program ...
Something to dig into ...

For the 16CE it looks like a real emulation of the 16C, with slightly increased memory (apart from the [ON]/[x] key combinations) and of course the high speed!

Happy hunting ... Wink

Thomas

Try to reset the calculator after switching to the 'BigMem' mode, and check again MEM.
If I'm not wrong, it may clarify things.

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
AFAIK the move from 15 to 15.2 keeps the whole memory as it was. The reverse is not true, obviously. However, resetting is good procedure just in case.

The original firmware only guarantees inverting matrix of up to 8x8. Therefore we need a method to invert up to 13x13. Valentiiiiiiiiiiiín ! We need you !
