New member here, hello.

I hope I'm in the right sub-forum for the following question.

Is there a surefire way of not losing Continuous Memory every time of late, when I remove and then replace the LR1 batteries on my HP 19BII?

After a battery leak scare about 5 years ago, every 3 months I remove the batteries to check for leakage.
I believe, that I replace them within one minute, Owners's Manual p271.

Solder thin wires to the battery terminals.
Connect them to an external power source in parallel. (power supply or rigged battery pack)
Replace the batteries.
Remove the external power source.

Procedure works well for car batteries too and saves you the trouble of resetting all the electronics.

Two suggestions; use quality silver oxide batteries, and replace them on a fixed periodic basis (e.g. your birthday). Batteries are far cheaper than your 19B so don't try to "squeeze the juice" from them.

Are the "silver oxide batteries" the same as the LR1 required in the HP 19BII ?

They don't as far as I know, I think Mark was thinking of another machine.

It's hard to imagine anyone is making Silver Oxide cells in N size, but I would love to be wrong about that, as they would last forever, but they would also be pretty pricey.

Late night, wrong calc model. Principle stands though, toss a couple of bucks worth of batteries every year or two in favor of preserving a classic model. Love the HP Solver and (I think!) The 19B II is best.

Sorry, I've been dissing Apple fanboys since 1985 I definitely admire the 19BII but my go everywhere model is the 27S. Just wish they had released an RPN capable followup.
