It’s painted. Try with a multimeter.

It’s painted. Try with a multimeter.

A multimeter is unlikely to tell you whether aluminium is clear anodized or has some sort of clear paint on it instead. Both are insulating. The very thin oxide layer created by the atmosphere is easily broken by multimeter probe (and that damage is invisible, we're talking nanometers) but the one created by intentional anodizing for a durable finish is a lot thicker: you're quite unlikely to get through that without leaving a mark. Paint would be thicker but softer.

I can think of a few ways to tell the difference, some of which are non-destructive, but all of them are materials analysis lab level. I'll report back if I come up with something somewhat accessible.

I do find paint quite unlikely, anodizing is pretty much standard for aluminium and for good reasons.

Hi,

I took a picture from the bezel. It was not like this when I got it. But a few days layer, using the supplied pouch, I noticed it.

Hi!
I received yesterday my new HP 15C CE with a new leather case from TheCalculatorStore.

I checked mine. Small scratches are visible.
I do not use the case. Just wear...

Ai! Ai! Ai! I have mine sitting at arms length in one of Dan Simpson's 3D printed Voyager stands.

I'm glad you like the stand, Mark.
I'm still patiently waiting for my 15CE to arrive from Spain.

Update: It arrived just a little while after posting this. I am loving it so far.
I can't say how long it took since I never got any notice of when it shipped.

There is no need for any tests. Just looking at it it is obvious it is painted

+1.

He's even got an HP-75 in the picture, to further add to the sheer obsoleteness of everything but the CE !

I am curious about the story of the community's involvement in the project. How did the firmware and/or emulator bugs get fixed? How did the easter eggs come to be added? How was the device tested? If anyone would like to share any of these details I think many folks would find them interesting.

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
Well, my weird reality distortion field seems to still be in full effect.

I've been holding off ordering a 15c CE to ensure that's what I really wanted to spend my money on, and also to see if the US distributor would get some any time soon.

I'm "looking forward" to some medical work being done, so I decided this would be a good distraction during convalescence... and early this morning I ordered mine from thecalculatorstore.com.

José tells me I'm getting the last one of the first batch.

...

Monthly operational check of Reality Distortion Field complete.
Status: satisfactory.

As a comment: everyone that placed and paid an order up to John has his HP15c covered (anyone after him could not place an order :-) ). Sometimes they have not been sent because a) overlays have not arrived yet, b) have leather covers for which we're out of stock, or c) have also repair parts that we are also out of. We will send them as soon as covers, overlays and parts are in.

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
I ordered mine on August 14 and got a notice today it is shipping on August 21. ?

I have an original HP15C i bought new in 1986 so I don’t “need” the new CE version. But it’s not about need, is it? ?

I have the original 15c too. So, practically I do not need another piece. But psychologically, I need it. That's why I ordered one. I do not regret. Now I use replace the old one with the 15CE.

It's not a need. It's a must have. Wink

RE: NEW: HP 15C Collectors Edition
I don't know if it's mentionned elsewhere already,
but IMHO the new 15CE has the best tactile keyboard feedback of all HP calculators so far.
This is only followed by the HP Prime (totally different but very nice),
and then the 41CV/CX of about 1985, before the switch to Half Nut.

I had several 11C, 12C 15C, 16C units from different manufacturer's countries,
but in most cases, the original units had a hard-to-press yet mushy ENTER key.
