-10706+20 = -10746 on my 15CE
I got a strange result when tried to compute -10706 + 20 and got -10746
My keystrokes were :

10706, CHS, ENTER, 20, +
with the same keystrokes, my 12c gave -10686

I re-tried below sequence on the 15CE but still got -10746
10706, ENTER, CHS, 20, +

My settings was RAD, complex mode

Was there anything wrong with my keystrokes ?

Hello,

can't confirm that on a 15CE. Then I thought: how could you arrive at a number ending with ...46? There is a nonzero possibility (nonzero because it happened to me!) of having typed -107066 in the first place and having misread the result as -10746 (in fact it is -107046).

emeff.

RE: -10706+20 = -10746 on my 15CE
Could it be a couple of problems segments on the LCD? eg if the 4th digit had three segments not working, it could look like a 4 instead of an 8?

A test would be to get the answer and then divide by 2 to get what should be -5343.

I couldn't replicate the issue on mine.

RE: -10706+20 = -10746 on my 15CE
Not a problem of segment or mis-typing.

I just tried to clear flag 8 but got an Error 10
As I wrongly believed that should be flag 7, I cleared flag 7 and the "C" annunciator gone.
Then I tried -10706+20 and it gave the correct answer -10686 !!!

As I wondered if the complex mode was the cause, I set flag 7. Of course the "C" did not appear.
After checking with the manual, I knew it should be flag8.
But now it always gives an Error 10 when I set flag 8
I believe something goes wrong with Matrix. I check the Matrix A has a dimension of 47 x 51 !
I tried f -> MATRIX -> 0 but got an Error 10

Now I have the correct result -10686 but no complex mode or Matrix.
Wonder if a reset helps ? ( by the way, could anyone know how to reset it ? )

It seems the memory has been corrupted.
Try a "soft" reset described in the manual ("Resetting Continuous Memory"):

Quote:1. Turn the calculator off.
2. Press and hold the [ON] key, then press and hold the - key.
3. Release the [ON] key, then the - key. (This convention is represented as [ON] / -.)
When Continuous Memory is reset, Pr Error (power error) will be displayed. Press any key to clear the display.

Hi J-F,

It works now ! I got the correct answer and no Error 10 now.
Thanks for your suggestion.

So, technically it could happen with the 12C too, I'm correct?

I believe that depends on the cause of such problem.

I stored the 15CE in my backpack while traveling to work. Recently, there were many stuff inside the backpack which (I guess) the calculators keys were pressed & held for a long time

If that was the case, 12c may behave similarly under the same condition
