Swiss Micros DM42 v DM42n v DM32 (keyboard feel)
Like many, keyboard feel is important to me on calculators.

I own one of each of the Swiss Micros DM41X, DM42 and DM32 models. The keyboards on the 41X and 42 feel just right to me. Not sure about the 32 though. I wonder what other's feeling is? I know its subjective!

I want to order either another 42 or the new 42n - the 42n for its USB-C and greater performance. However, I would like the new machine's keyboard to have the "same" feel as my 41X and 42, not the 32 (as I perceive it).

I am not sure how many 42n machines are out there yet, but would be good to know any feedback.

I want the additional machine because I like the C47 and DB48x/DB50x projects, and want to run them on their own machines (with overlays).

Thanks,

Mark.

RE: Swiss Micros DM42 v DM42n v DM32 (keyboard feel)
I won't be much help because I only have the DM42n, but I'm satisfied with the key presses, probably because I held out no hope that they would be HP quality; and they are not. But on the upside the presses are crisp and uniformly consistent (except for perhaps the Enter key, which seems to take a bit more force to actuate).

If I were allowed to be nit-picky, I wish the keys were a tad softer, and i wish the travel were a bit deeper. They also make a tiny bit more noise than I prefer.... but again, these are nit picks.

Of the dozen HPs I own, my favorite key presses are my 15C CE, and my 48GX. (I'm not implying that those two have the same feel, they are quite different from each other, but I enjoy both of their characteristics).

Probably not much help, since I only own the DM42n. Nevertheless, that's my (limited) take on the subject.

Jase.

It's not "divorce and one more calculator", it's "divorce and not needing to get permission for calculator purchases ever again".

Does that make the decision easier? Big Grin

Ok, so in trying to justify my purchases of calculators, it is definitley cheaper than:

(i) flying
(ii) anything to do with cars
(iii) gambling
(iv) bitcoin

etc...

Easy!
I arrange for my wife to see me looking at a picture of DM... and I tell her (innocently): "I won't buy it, it's really too expensive...".

Then I wait... My birthday... Christmas...

Moral: No divorce ! My most expensive calculators were given to me by my wife ! So today I have all the SwissMicros !

Can't answer for the DM41X, as I don't own one (and probably never will).
I bought the "first generation" DM42, and the keyboard was "horrible".
I bought the WP43 prototype, which had a much better keyboard feel.
I bought the "new generation" DM32 with the same, better, keyboard feel as the WP43.
Reading this and the SM forum, I discoverd that I could buy an "improved" dome membrane for my original DM42. Ordered it and did the necessary "surgery" on my DM42. Now it's superb.
Ordered the DM42n, and it has the same excellent keyboard as the "new generation" DM's and WP43.

Twice a year: birthday and Christmas.
in France we say "When we love we don't count" so why not 365 calculators a year ? Smile
