RE: Classifieds scams?
Hello,

The hpmuseum.org site does have a section called "Collector's Corner" (https://www.hpmuseum.org/collect.htm#diff) with a list of typical prices for the various models. I do not know how often it is updated, and what the source for these prices is apart from eBay. Prices can be different in different parts of the world with the U.S. being on top of the range in most cases. So it might be worth widening the search in eBay to "worldwide". I have bought calculators from places like Moldavia, Ukraine (before the war), Pakistan or Australia. But usually I limit my search to Europe, mostly because of the crazy shipping cost some countries (at the top of the list again the United States) have. Sometimes it is worth buying an entire lot of electronics junk for one single calculator. I got my first HP-41C - with card reader, manuals and some modules - that way. I had to buy a really large and heavy box containing old radios, toasters, hairdryers, wall clocks and similar things (like jade souvenir parerweights from China...) for 50 Euros in order to get it. Some of the items were still working or easily fixed so I sold them on at the flea market. But that's tedious and time consuming. The collector's corner of this site says: HP-42S - Fairly Easy $95-$202, $260, $400 I think 95$ would indeed be a good price for an HP-42S in decent state. Forget about the manuals (available online) and the case - all you really want is the calculator. If you have a sewing machine or know someone who has one you can make your own pouch in a few minutes. Regards Max |
