HP15CE firmware update help

Hi,

I've just ordered the programming cable for my hp15ce, I've been trying to understand how this is suppose to work?. Having read the instructions it appears like a MSDOS version one job. Not sure what to do, I am using a hp laptop running windows 11.

Any ideas? greatly appreciated, the hp instructions are vague and totally outdated and useless.

If you can't understand them, that doesn't mean they're "vague and totally outdated and useless" in general, possibly just so for you. Hundreds (thousands?) of people have successfully updated their machines, so they can't be all that bad.

But let's start with basics...

Which instructions are you trying to follow?

What specific issues have you had, and/or what steps seem to be confusing?

This update is more akin to updating an embedded device than a PC application program, but that's because the 15c CE is an embedded device.

Don't fret though, it's not really as difficult as it sounds on the first read (if you've never done stuff like this before) it's just a matter of taking your time, being patient, and precisely following the steps in order.

Hi Bob,

I've just noticed that they recommend V2.18, I originally downloaded the latest version and couldn't get it work. Anyhow, I've successfullly downloaded v2.18 and it installed no problem.

I haven't got my cable yet so I've taken it as far as I can.It seems clear now.

Happy to help and good news that the v2.18 is working better. There seem to be many, many versions of Samba. SAMBA, SAM-BA, etc. in lots of places, and they do not work the same (in some cases quite differently) which is why Jose posted the known-compatible version.

When your cable arrives, holler here if you run into trouble, but no need to worry, the procedure works well and you can't harm the 15c. The 'trickiest' part is to be sure to follow the sequence exactly, pressing the reset button as noted, and using the memory values exactly as shown, and it should go as planned.

I can confirm that it all works , as someone not in IT. There's more steps than just updating a mass-market product like a phone, but nothing to worry about. And I'm really pleased that this niche product has the ability to be updated like this.

Something that is not stressed enough in the instructions is that you need to press hard on the buttons.
