I believe Eric once quoted the number of overlays made. That was a while back and more have been made since. Still, this is probably a decent estimate of the total.

See message #26 at the end of this thread two years ago on the old forum. One year later in the poll already mentioned he said he had sold 345 pre-built 34s, up from 150 one year before.

Reminds me of a person I once met:

For the record, as of today I have sold 567 of the 34S calculators.

Thanks a lot, Eric. Maybe Pauli can add what he knows from the other "sales channels".

Just for curiousity: how many sets of overlays were sold?

RE: WP34s 20b Repurposed
hi folks,

Here is my 20b; I've been using it for a while by memory and printed cheat-sheet, but the overlays came from Eric in tonight's snail mail (Thanks Eric!). Smile

Thought I would post the pic; since it really exceeded my expectations for marketing and curb appeal:

Of the five units I've successfully repurposed the 20b is quickly becoming my favorite/ best calculator ever!

So we have the sequence: ...34(S)567...

Very nice photo. It would look even better, IMHO, with f, g, and h printed in white (using the alternative key covers supplied by Eric).

Maybe a dozen at a quick guess. It isn't many.

Walter, you are absolutely correct, IMHO too... I was sooo paying attention to NOT put a sticker on the wrong button, and to try and keep things lined up, that I did not EVEN notice that the three extra function stickers were a different color-- duh. The white font over the colored bars does look much better, indeed! Hey, thanks! Smile

I updated my top post with a comparison | contrast of the 20b vs 30b display LCD; complete with photo side-by-side.

Check it out.

Well, I'd suggest you take your two pictures under the same angle - else it's hard to make a real comparison (just a little hint from a physicist).

Quite true... posted (take a look). I was really trying to put each display in its best light in the first two pics. In the second set of side-by-sides the angle is consistent as best a hand-held camera mounted in a phone is going to be. Smile

RE: WP34s 20b Repurposed
Now it became a comparison. Smile

Anyway, as long as both an HP-20b and an HP-30b are available, everybody is free to buy what (s)he likes best. The differences are obvious: a) the colour, b) the keys, c) the display. Evereything else is equal if you think about repurposing. Point a) can be "corrected" by simple means, b) and c) can't. I concur with Eric who chose the HP-30b as basis for his WP 34S and WP 31S "production". YMMV.

30b ROM upload to 20b - is it possible?
Maybe I'll slightly off, and of course I don't read all of information here and other places, but I really want to know:
If possible to make a 34s from a 20B or 30B, therefore is it possible to make a 30b from a 20b? (30b ROM upload to the 20b)??

Thanks for the answers!

If I remember correctly the answer is no.

I suppose it's theoretically possible, but you would need the 30b's ROM code, which Marcus von Cube states is HP's intellectual property. As such it's not publicly available to upload to the 20b, at least not officially, and if there is an unofficial source for it I don't know of one.
