ASCII text files that I have Copied/Pasted via Connectivity Kit from PC show up as substantially larger on the Prime.

Basically, what you are seeing is a cached copy of all the formatting stuff. It saves that at the end of the file so yes, it does balloon when you've opened it. I definitely want to change that.

Remember, that it isn't just a plain text editor but a complete 2d formatting engine that supports equations, images, formatting, etc. Unfortunately, the implementation as done does consume a lot of space when you exit.

And then to top it off you get a personal answer here from the head of the calculator group.
We expect this from HP but Bob; you must be livin right.

I would have thought Forum Member Wessman would be the first to tell you the answer was not from " the head of the calculator group" but rather from Forum Member Wessman.

Due to buggy nature of the Emulator/Connectivity Kit I don't do any programming there.
(I'm not doing anything with CAS)

I am forced to do BACKUP/RESTORE at least every day due to the above mentioned bug and apparently other bugs.

This BACKUP/RESTORE exercise was required before I started dealing with Notes.

Another symptom was excessive program compile time, on the order of 1-2 minutes.
This would be "fixed" by BACKUP/RESTORE.
This symptom was also apparently unknown to anyone else.

The "On"+"Symb" reset method does not fix any problems.
Only the "Pin Hole" reset method will allow you to function enough to do a BACKUP/RESTORE.

My suggestion is that on future designs they include a receptacle on the Prime itself to hold a pin type tool. (just kidding)
Actually, a larger hole, big enough to fit a pen point, would be nice.

This implies you think the emulator more buggy than the calculator - I'm not so sure.

Quite true! I just missed that post somehow. My boss, or his boss, would also find it quite interesting to learn that I've been responsible for their jobs as well. :-)

Not "more buggy" just also buggy.
The main task is programming the physical Prime for my purposes.
The Emulator and Connectivity Kits are just accessories.
Since they can cause many additional problems, I try to avoid using them.

Just happened again where I did a Backup/Restore only to find that several files were not Restored. Did another Restore and there they were.
No indication that anything was wrong.
Only my awareness that Backup/Restore is unreliable and eyeball checking can help prevent problems.
I do Backup/Restore almost every day and sometimes 2-3 times a day.

Like I have said, I can't understand why others have not noticed these issues.
They absolutely exist.

This insidious behavior can cause (and has caused) a LOT of grief.

Tip Of The Day:
Connect the Prime to it's own USB port.
Do not share that port with other devices. Cell Phone, Computer, nothing.
Doing so will PROBABLY "corrupt" that port as far as the Connectivity Kit is concerned.
Your PC will NOT see the Prime when it is plugged in.
You will have to Uninstall/ReInstall the Connectivity Kit to repair things.
Had to do that several times before doing the dedicated port thing.
So far, so good.

As an experiment I took my 10k ASCII text file...
Loaded it into Microsoft Word...
Saved it as a .docx file, with all the formatting, etc...
Looked at it in Windows File Explorer...

It's only 12k. With all the formatting, etc...

I'm still wondering if there is a big problem with Notes.

RE: Notes crashes the Prime
You do know that docx is essentially a zip file right? Rename it to .zip and try to open it...

As I said, I'm not happy at all with the way it handles formatting stuff right now. Basically, you get a second copy of the text with every bit of binary information (each node, line, paragraph, etc) attached onto it.

RE: Notes crashes the Prime
Once again, thanks for the enlightenment.
I did not know about the .docx "secret".
When I expanded the "zip"... 116k!
So the Prime Note is actually small by comparison.
Learned something new today.
