Glühwein?
Can any of our esteemed Germanic friends recommend a recipe for some decent glühwein?

I've got a fairly miserable weekend ahead clearing out my father's house after his death last year and need something to calm myself down a bit.

Hallo Pauli,

http://www.teekanne.de/produktwelt/spezi.../gluehfix/

This Glühfix is famous in germany.

If you (hopefully) don't have access to these tea bags, take any cheap red wine, heat up with cinnamon, dried cloves, orange , dried orange peel, one or more teaspoon of sugar.

You will get rid of your headache and get a new one the next day.

Bernhard

That's one small step for a man - one giant leap for mankind.

While I'm a strict teetotaller and cannot recommend a certain Glühwein recipe, I can feel the pain this must cause to you Sad. I'm happy my mother was still around when my dad died, but likely, sooner or later I'll have to go through the same.

You can always add some rum to increase both effects. Wink

BTW, I'd recommend some decent red wine, not the cheapest.

Here in Hessen we heat up some Apfelwein (apple wine) instead. Cinnamon and dried cloves are the only spices. Sugar is more then recommended because Apfelwein is a bit sour.

RE: Glühwein?
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to have to find some Glühfix and Apfelwein.

For today, I'll mull my own I think.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the recipe. Will try it when I get another bottle of Apfelwein. At least now I have a bembel :-)

Mulling wine is everywhere and always in the first place a question of the wine's quality. If and what you add depends on your personal tastes. Conventional ingredients might be cloves, cinnamon, lemon or orange zest, star aniseed, honey or sugar. Other alcohols? Better not.

As for preparation: If you do not have the opportunity of an open fire and a mulling iron: Add the desired ingredients, heat the mixture, but it should be neither too hot nor for too long. That just ruins the wine, I think...

I wish you a calming mulled wine experience...

Be careful, the outlet points apparently right onto your 32SII!

No problem, it's still empty! This device (the Bembel) has yet to be tested Smile

Gerson, whenever you make it to Germany, don't hesitate to contact me. We have some really good Apfelwein in town.

RE: Glühwein?
hi Pauli, here's a pretty decent recipe that won't disappoint. Sorry you're having a rough time. A rough mulled wine might help. Wink

Kind regards,
marcus
