Members referred?

What exactly does "Members Referred" mean? And what purpose does it serve? I am credited with referring 8 people though I do not recall specifically referring anyone.

I might be wrong about this but .......

You don't have to actively refer people, if anyone registers by going to this URL:

"http://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/member.php?action=register&referrer=<member number>"

where they've used your member number then it will count as a referral for you.

Possibly some people have tested this using your member number (perhaps even Dave) and so this bumped up your referral count.
