HP41CV with transitional internal design
HI,
last week I bought an HP41CV sn 2128Sxxx...nothing special apparently. The calculator is in great shape except that one of the battery connections was burned. I opened it to change the flex connector and I was a bit surprised because I found that the board was attached with two plastic o-rings, just to press the board when the back side cover is present. I saw this in early HP41c with a couple of metalic nuts making the work themselves without the action of the back cover. In later 41C and CV the back cover evolved to press the board directly...I have many 41s and this is the first I have seen with this mixed mechanism. Maybe you knew this but I would like just share it. It is new for me. I enclose some pictures (the stuff in the holes is a little bit of vaseline) Kind regards [attachment=2589] [attachment=2590] [attachment=2591] |

RE: HP41CV with transitional internal design
Not transitional.
That was a 'nut' machine with the small threaded nuts. It however, has been back to HP for repair work and the nuts have been replaced with the plastic 'o' rings. This is because the nuts are a one use mechanism. They self tap on, but a second attempt after being removed usually ended in a stripped screw post. Thus the o-rings were used if the nuts failed to hold the board in place after repair. Cheers, Geoff |

RE: HP41CV with transitional internal design
Hi Geoff,
thanks for your comment. I am gonna check if this calculator was repaired by the HP service. I have access to the original owner. By the way, is there any possiblity to get a couple of side covers? the small one that covers the rechargable battery plug. I know someone offered replicas in Ebay but with a very high price for the item and extremely high shipping cost to Spain. It could be a good issue for 3d printers... Regards Ignacio |

Hola Ignacio, This part is available from shapeways, same as battery or port covers, for a very interesting price. This is discussed in this thread: http://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-4141.html Anyway, it is the part of the kit that i like less; it doesn't seem to have much grip, and I'm afraid it may get lost easily. Un saludo, Alberto |

RE: HP41CV with transitional internal design
Hi,
Alberto, I find that twelve can be considered a "growing up" collection. I am located in Valencia. Please contact me directly by PM, if you need anything. Nice to meet you! Dave, good work and thank you! It is a pain to see the 41s without the side cover...;-P Kind regards Ignacio |

RE: HP41CV with transitional internal design
Hi Spaniards!
Alberto, I studied in Pamplona and now I live nearby, in La Rioja. I've been visiting hpmuseum.org since 2002, sometimes more frequently sometimes less (as nowadays) but I almost always find something interesting here. |
