Statistics of eBay auction of HP-15C and HP-42S
The following chart is based on the ended auction search of eBay.
The result only contains recent auctions (in several months). I do not include those "for part or repair" but include the "AS-IS" ones. Some seller didn't state the condition in the title. I include those items as well. In the chart of HP-15C, the orange bars indicate LE version. There are two average lines: one includes the auction of 15C LE, the other doesn't. Enjoy and take a good reference! |

So people are bidding more for the lesser version of the 15C...

I assume your prices are in USD and do not include shipping?

RE: Statistics of eBay auction of HP-15C and HP-42S
I wonder if the arrival of the full sized Swiss Micros 15C and 41 will have any effect on the TAS prices of the HP 15x, 41x and 42S ?

Why should they influence the prizes of the 42S? It's running circles around the 41L anyway.

I think it will have a minimal effect. I've ordered a SwissMicro 41L but I also bid on a 41 CX that comes with a card reader and printer. The nostalgia factor is much greater than the usability factor. There's just something about owning a real vintage HP that can't be duplicated by modern clones. Tom L Tom L Cui bono? |

I also made the "mistake" of not distinguishing between 15C and 15CLE. Martin |

RE: Statistics of eBay auction of HP-15C and HP-42S
Hi,
it is very interesting all your work! Maybe it is the time to update the "prices section" of the website (and many other sections...said this with absolute respect and admiration for the work done) In my modest opinion, there are some aspects to take into account: -Abnormal low prices are usually caused by two main reasons: -the state of the calculator (used 15c trend to be very affected and this is not welcome by collectors, which are the main (not only) addresses of old 15c), or, but this is less frequent nowadays, the owner does not know the real value of th item...this second issue has happended to me when someone offers 15c in flea markets or second hand websites (not ebay!) and does not know very well what that does worth really...it takes minutes to buy it! -Extra high prices can occur when "new" or "with the box" is offered, and this can also affect to general conclusions. For this reason, what do you think?, maybe the average is not the best indicator and would be better to consider a position indicator like the median or more frequent like the mode. I would suggest to consider extra-low prices like "abnormal values"... Again, very interesting work done...congratulations. maybe could be extended to 41's! Kind regards Ignacio |

RE: Statistics of eBay auction of HP-15C and HP-42S
It seems to me that the 15c is more sought after than the 42s. Does anybody know why? It cannot be because of its looks.
Thanks |

RE: Statistics of eBay auction of HP-15C and HP-42S
Beauty is in the eye of the owner or collector. The HP-15C features the classical slanted keys characteristic for good'ol HP calculators while the HP-42S doesn't anymore. I concur, however, that the 42S runs circles around the 15C function-wise.

Thanks for your advice Ignacio.
Currently my statistic program is very simple. I will improve it later. And it's especially difficult to summarize the 41 series since there are so many accessories with the same keywords in the title. |

RE: Statistics of eBay auction of HP-15C and HP-42S
I'd gladly swap my new-in-box HP-15C LE for a decent HP-42S...
