I remember the wonderful series of jornada 400 MHz at the beginning of 2000th for the countries of the third world (Ukraine for the e.g.). Yes, this firm produced remarkable things in the year one. Now HP is unable to produce such quality things. HP-prime confirms my words.

How could they call Jornada 820 HP’s first PDA?
This seems entirely unfair to the HP 95LX (1991), HP 100LX (1992), and HP 200LX (1994).
What do they lack that PDAs had? Or was it just too early to use that term? (04-14-2016 04:33 PM)Mark Power Wrote: http://www8.hp.com/h30458/us/en/smb/Thei...ingPC.html |

Didn't those morph into the OMNI series, though? Or am I remembering wrong? What succeeded the 200LX?

They ran GeOS, and were sort of an early attempt at a touchscreen PDA (they had the Graffiti "handwriting" recognition system later used in the Pilot/Palm Pilot/Palm, and you could fold the screen completely around the bottom, much like a 28S). The screen contrast wasn't very good, and the included software didn't really stack up against what the 200LX already had. GeOS wasn't exactly a speed demon on there, either, and requires some weird hacks to get even limited DOS program compatibility. They're a neat novelty if you can get one cheap, but I've hardly ever used mine. The handhelds kind of stagnated for a few years, until HP jumped on the Windows CE bandwagon with the 300LX, and later the Jornada line. |

RE: HP: The incredible shrinking PC (and some of our favourite calculators)
The things that killed all of my interest in the follow-on HP products after the 95/100/200LX family was that they completely did away with the numeric keypad. They were still too small to touch type on the keyboards, but it was no longer possible to effectively thumb type either.
I have stayed with the 200LX too and I use one daily for databases with my modest collections of calculators and watches. (04-15-2016 04:35 PM)Dave Britten Wrote: ... |
