Disposal of my collection
In late 2013 my remaining kidney started to fail. As a result I am now undergoing dialysis three days every week. In addition I celebrated (if that is the right word) my 85th birthday on jnFebruary 1st. Due to the combination of failing health coupled with advanced age I have realized that the time has come to dispose of my collection which consists of 40 HP's, 160 TI's and 500 calculators by other manufacturers, I also have 180 slide rules and about 50 mechanical calculators ranging from push-down calculators to to Fridens. You can see specific examples of my mechanical collection in my presentation "Calculating before Calculators" at the HHUC 2012 conference.
In the coming days I will be listing the HP's for sale in this forum Palmer O. Hanson Jr. |

RE: Disposal of my collection
Palmer,
I have enjoyed reading your posts over the years and saw the presentation you gave at HHC 2012. You also sent me a mini General Electric slide rule several years ago for which I am very appreciative. I am very sorry to learn about your health issues and wish you well. Jeff Kearns |

RE: Disposal of my collection
I've been reading with pleasure your posts through the years, and I've always felt that they came from a very knowledgeable person with a lot of experience and high, unbiased standards. I missed them in the new forum... now we learn that you went through a difficult ordeal. I'm really sorry.
I sincerely hope that you feel as well as possible under the circumstances soon. As fairness in character usually comes with courage and resolution I'm sure that you will be all right. Being across the pond and not really able to afford as many nice machines as I'd like, at least I trust that the folks here will provide excellent foster homes for all of them. |

Palmer -- we've never met, but I've looked at some of the material you have posted with great interest. Know that you've got a lot of people thinking of you and wishing you the best -- even some you've never met.

RE: Disposal of my collection
Sad news, indeed. May he rest in peace.
As far as I now, he IS the biggest calculator collector among us. His posts ARE very interesting, and I can't resist to link here one of them: http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/...ead=164108 Jose Mesquita RadioMuseum.org member |

(03-26-2014 08:20 PM)Jake Schwartz Wrote: From Robert Prins of TI59.com: I just learned of this sad event today. I had the honor of sitting next to Palmer all through HHC2012 in Nashville. He was an interesting man, and he had been a US Navy pilot during the Korean War. A short obituary appeared in the Tampa Bay Times. I regret that I was never able to find and send him my 40-year-old Spirule that we discussed at HHC2012. Palmer was very interested in such specialized "computing" devices. Rest well, Palmer. Time has a way of getting away from us. |
