[34s] Questions / thoughts
Still in the process of discovering the 34s and still finding this little thing awesome.
While I'm very excited about it, I'm wondering why I don't see more about it on this forum. Really, how popular is it? Do we have any idea/measure of the number of 34s that were created? I admit that flashing is a challenge but it is so worth the burden (I did get Marcus's help for that, tx so much again...). Also, any reason why there is no specific 34s forum, software libraries? Just wondering... Also wondering if the 34s was any source of inspiration for HP? We need such amazing engineer calculators! The Prime is beautiful and blazing fast but not the kind of calculator I want on a daily base. |

RE: [34s] Questions / thoughts
Our best guess is a few hundred 34S devices have been made. Maybe pushing up towards a thousand but that seems a stretch.

RE: [34s] Questions / thoughts
We could start a poll to get the number of regulars of this forum who own a 34S.

Quote:Be sure to include a way to indicate how many they own! Hi, I own four plus the excellent printed manual, but we all know that all the hp30b and 20b calcs which will ever be made have already been made, so their days are numbered. It's been said before, but if some enterprising and clever individual out there would port the wp34s to an Android app, I bet that at a buck or two per copy, the number of 34s users would increase by an order of magnitude in no time. Personally, I'd love to carry a 34s in my phone. Physical buttons are definitely an advantage, but smartphones will allow the project to live much longer. Thanks, Jake |

Android is a different beast so a port will be a larger effort. IIRC, the iOS port is based on Qt. I've no idea if Qt has been ported to Android yet. RE: [34s] Questions / thoughts
Porting to Android would take me a few months (not full time). There is nothing difficult per se but one challenge is to support miscellaneous screen resolutions & ratios.
One could use the Windows/OSX/Linux Qt emulator as a starting poing as Qt runs on Android now. But unfortunately, my daytime job is much more demanding those days so someone else would have to implement it. |
