HP 85 and accessories for sale
Hi there,
This is a cross-post from hackaday.io: https://hackaday.io/page/2980-whats-the-...uter-stuff It was suggested to me that you all might be interested. A friend of mine recently passed away and his wife put me in charge of selling his old computer stuff. Problem is I have no idea what it's worth. The machine relevant here is the HP 85 with owners manual, 4 linking cables, 7 cassettes (one still in packaging), and 2 expansion modules. Let me know if you have any idea how much this stuff is worth or if you are interested in buying it. And please don't lowball me. All the proceeds are going to a memorial fund. Edit: Here are some photos of the spread Top: 98036A RS-232C I/O Interface. Middle: 98032A 16 Bit I/O Interface. Bottom: 98032A 16 Bit I/O Interface (82937A HP-1B Interface compatible). |

Even if everything works, IMHO $1k is quite high, unless everything is pristine, with all manuals, literature, etc. You may get that if you're willing to wait quite a while, but not if you want to move it quick (which is what it sounds like). I strongly suggest you post photos of all items (I'm sure it's easier to post on the other site and add links here) as no one will even briefly consider spending even half that much without some objective assessment of condition. HP-85s regularly go for anywhere from $100 to $700 on eBay, depending on condition and accessories, and on up to $1295 if professionally restored. --Bob Prosperi |

I picked up a fully functional 87 with a 128KB RAM card, 9121D floppy disk, 82905B dot matrix printer, the FILE/80, WORD/80 and VisiCalc Plus software packages and the hardcopy manual sets for everything all in excellent condition, for less than that, including shipping. |

RE: HP 85 and accessories for sale
Hi all. Sorry for the very, very slow reply. I've added a few images of the HP and accessories to my original post. I plan on putting it all on Ebay as a bundle next week unless I receive a reasonable offer before then.
Cheers! |

RE: HP 85 and accessories for sale
A reasonable offer can't be made until the condition of the printer, tape drive, and display are known.
FYI, the drive bands in the tapes have certainly deteriorated and the cables belong to a different system. |

RE: HP 85 and accessories for sale
Those adapters with attached cables are for 9825/31/35/45 I see at least one HPIB adapter in the pile and what is likely a GPIO. I would suggest selling them separate from the 85 stuff.
Update looking closer at least one of them is in fact an adapter for a Series 80 machine, following the cable on it, it would appear to be a 82937A HP-IB Interface, but the other three are not series 80 adapters. Depending on what they are I might be interested in them. |

RE: HP 85 and accessories for sale
Time for another excessively delayed update.
I fired up the computer! The display, printer, and tape drive are all working (see additional photos). As for the linking cables, one is an 82937A HP-1B Interface (good call Paul) that will be sold with the computer. The others are two 98032A 16 Bit I/O Interfaces and a 98036A RS-232C I/O Interface. I'm not sure what adapters they have (see additional photos) but one of the 98032A interfaces connects to the 82937A HP-1B Interface. I'm going to post the computer on Ebay tomorrow. I'll post the three cables too unless someone wants them - shipping and handling plus whatever you're willing to donate to the memorial fund. |

Option 085 is the version for connection to a 9885, so if it has a HPIB like connector on it, it has been modified. The option 085 was shipped with a right angle female 50 pin D shell connector on the end. The 2 on the other one is an indicator of the select code it is set to. |
