Of course anyone is welcome to fork Free42 and add big-screen support, that's the point of the GPL. :-) |

Which CEO wants to keep investing in a unit with 0% growth? I, like the rest of this forum's members, feel really attached to HP calcs, and we want to see HP on top of the game again, as the leader of yore. No calc is free of imperfections, no matter who is the manufacturer. Nevertheless, the HP50g and HP Prime did set new landmarks. I am sure we all wish nothing but the best for the calc business unit at HP in any forecoming products :0) "Armchair-CEO #1 player dixit" ;0) Saludos Saluti Cordialement Cumprimentos MfG BR + + + + + Luigi Vampa + Free42 '<3' I + + |

In a certain market expecting infinite (or constant) grow is unlikely. With finite resources is straightforward absurd to think that one can grow indefinitely. We are not on the cartesian plane. ... I wish my Chinese boss would think like you. I have been working for far-east-based engineering companies these last 9 years, and any growth below 10% is seen as almost flat and useless.
Some years ago I was with a Korean company; our HQ sold out the business unit I was with precisely because of that. I then joined the culprits, a Chinese company growing at CAGR 30% last 5 years. Saludos Saluti Cordialement Cumprimentos MfG BR + + + + + Luigi Vampa + Free42 '<3' I + + |

RE: New HP-42S Replacement?
Yes but it depends on the market. It is not that all the market are equal.
Market for space traveling and exploration? Maybe it is still too early now but likely there will be the need in the future. Market for big container ships? Sure! Globalization! Market for slide rules? Very a little (nowadays). Maybe in the 1930 it was huge (and maybe it will be huge in the future), but it is unlikely to expect constant grow for the slide rule market at the moment. Also, personal opinion: if the shareholders think that constant grow is always achievable in whatever condition, I'd think that they are not that good in math. Like someone playing the lotto. Said that, I think the market for advanced calculators like nspire, prime & co is quite stable unless India/China open up. Wikis are great, Contribute :) |

RE: New HP-42S Replacement?
You are absolutely right when you say "market is stable", but this doesn't mean your market share should be stable too.
Imagine HP nails next model and sales surpass all expectations. In this case, HP calc business unit's sales would soar, because their market share would have increased... in the very same stable market we are living year after year. Believe me, you can't mention an stable market to a boss from the Far East. I have seen some colleagues' heads rolling after repeating that "stable market" mantra too many times :.! RE: New HP-42S Replacement?
A NDA for a 42 prime app? Nah...
Why bother? DM42 is around the corner.... Fast, big screen, connectivity, memory...no bugs....no bad keys ...good support... I was excited at the start, but after such mistery and as someone already said before, HP won't make it better than SM + free42, I am more excited in recieving my Pil-Box.... Whichever comes, it will be welcome... |
