RE: Most common calculators in the forum?
Hi haven't been on the forum for a while, but this got me thinking about my current collection. I've been a collector for many years now: https://www.flickr.com/photos/keithmidso...634156167/
The calculators that I currently use are (these are the ones in drawers on my desk, I have more in a cupboard as part of my collection, like Xpander, 75D, etc): HP 28S x 2 28C 48SX 48G 42S 32S 50th Anniversary Edition 32SII 15C 15C LE DM15L 12C (1981 serial) 12C 25th Anniversary 12C 30th Anniversary 19BII 65 45 35 71B (VER$1AAAA) 95LX Non HP - Sharp PC1210 Sharp PC1211 Sharp PC1360 Radio Shack PC1 Tandy PC8 Tandy EC-4019 Casio FX-702P Cheers, Keith |

I've been a collector for many years now: https://www.flickr.com/photos/keithmidso...634156167/ To say it with Master Yoda's words: An awesome collection there you have, Keith! Makes me envious. While browsing through your very nicely arranged pictures I just thought that the classics with the slightly bulged shape and the beveled keys were the most aesthetic. I also admired the clear-case samples you have. You even have a place for a heavily used 15C where the product label isn't visible anymore. In every good collection the ugly ducklings should not be missing. So you did not hesitate to show the nadir of HP's calculator world, the rock bottom development culminating in the EasyCalc 100. As if HP was eager to compete with the cheapest East-Asian shames of industrial product design. Thanks for sharing! Frido |

... or the HP-33S. Blech. I'm too used to my calculator keys being in rows and not just columns. I think the 33S is one of the ugliest examples of user interface I've seen for a while. I've no idea how it behaves other than its looks, or how reliable the underlying calculator is.

Yes, I agree it's ugly, but after using it for sometime I found it very ergonomic, easy to use, after you get used to the small enter key and chevron shape keyboard. Maybe after years using the tradition HP calculators, we became very traditionalists and tending to refute new things. As for reliability, I think it is, but on the hardware side, mine specimen has already some keys sporadically missing keystrokes. Overall, I think is a nice calculator, but far from the quality we find in some, let's say, pioneers and voyagers. Cheers JL |

I now have both a beta unit and a production unit and I'll amend my first post in this thread to reflect that change. I also have a few more Casio units to add to my list but won't get all of them until after Christmas so I'll send in another message once I have them. |
