The latest turn of the century was 2000, which was a leap year (multiple of 400) but 1900 was not and 2100 won't be!

Yes, the 28 years cycle will be disturbed in 2100, so we have to correct the calculators date from 1988 to 1976 on monday the 3-1-2100.

Not sorted by date, but an excellent site: http://casio.ledudu.com/pockets.asp?lg=eng&serie=100

Thanks; yes, I looked at those, and also the game ones, which were superficially similar, but they didn't ring a bell either.

As 15-ish-year-olds doing Maths 'O'-Level [actually, -Grade in Scotland, i.e. GCSE] we'd definitely have needed scientific calculators, and I doubt we had money for two Smile

Ah!

I'm thinking that I must be referring to the fx-8100, but I seem to remember both a taller screen, and a physical switch for time/calc, neither of which that (or any other Casio I've seen) has. Ah well.

thanks to all…

Your description remaids me of the EL-410 from 1981, but it's neither CASIO nor scientific.

thanks, yes I had spotted that one myself — meant to mention it — and wondered.

I can't remember (!) if the one I'm talking about was mine, or a friend's which I coveted. If the former, it would have to have been a Casio and scientific. If a friend's it might just have been the Sharp, perhaps.

If it was mine, I will find it one day and report Smile

RE: circa 1980 Casio with clock, similar to fx-8100
My Casio ML-81 has been my morning alarm clock since I was given it in 1981, replacing my Toshiba LC-854WA. Still works great, though the vinyl folding cover failed and was lost many years ago. The keyboard and dedicated buttons make setting an alarm time easier than any other alarm I've ever used. It's thin enough to stay under my pillow where it's alarm is enough for me without waking anyone else. And you can change an alarm to any desired time by feel in the dark.

Back then, the credit card calculators from Casio and many others were very appealing. Friends and I were on the lookout for one with what you ask - scientific functions, time and alarms. I never did find any that did all that.

hi all, thanks again for all the comments.

I managed to find an as-new 8100 on TAS, and it's great. Of course, having looked at it, I now can't really remember whether it was the one from my schooldays, but it's very close Smile

And the year adjustment works perfectly, party like it's 1991!

thanks again.
