By my rough count, that makes nearly a hundred and fifty million Zedders, just in the populations I've mentioned. I think the United States covers about three hundred and twenty five million as of 2017. (Post 294) Regards, BrickViking HP-50g |Casio fx-9750G+ |Casio fx-9750GII (SH4a) |

India uses Zed and most of the languages in Europe uses "Zet". India has ~1E9 inhabitants. Europe ~7,5E8 inhabitants. The cultural influence of the U.S. on the rest of the world is huge, but I don't think even it is sufficient to convince the great majority of humans to switch from Zed to Zee. Side note: I was very confused on one of my first road trips here and saw a sign that said "Tappan Zee Bridge." That made no sense no matter how I tried to parse it! It turns out I should have looked for the solution closer to home: that "Zee" is the Dutch word for "sea," because the Hudson at that point is very wide, prompting some Dutch explorer to call that stretch a sea (naming it after the local Tappan tribe). The more you know! |

RE: Swiss Micros makes HP 'act-alikes' - programmable
I own a DM-15L (and DM-16L) as well as an HP-35s. I use the HP35s for Algebra and Trigonometry and math up to about College level, and the 15L for College Level math (first year Complex Numbers/Vectors/Matrices) - by the way I am an older student (I received my bachelors degree back in 1997).
I would really like to just use the DM-15L for everything (the ability to load/save state and develop programs offline is fantastic esp. with 999 steps!) but am worried about keyboard durability. Has the keyboard been designed for heavy use? Does anyone here use a Voyager form format Swiss Micros device can comment on daily use long term? I guess the good thing is I use the DM-16L rarely and can "swap" over the internals in case of failure, and flash the 15L firmware. Thanks. HP-28S (1988 US model), DM41X (2020) |

Disclaimer: I am involved with Swiss Micros, but not financially. I run their forum on a volunteer basis and serve as a kind of "community manager" channelling info between forum users and the Swiss Micros team. I currently own most of the Swiss Micros machines. In particular I have a DM41L that has taken a hell of a beating over the last 15-18 months and it's still going strong. Although it doesn't have quite the same feel, the design is similar to HP machines. It starts out a bit harder but does soften over time. I was quite taken aback when comparing that DM41L to a new one that I recently acquired and to a new DM15L. These things are built like tanks. They'll take whatever you throw at them. Within reason, of course. They might not like you driving your car over them. |

What happens if eaten by a hippopotamus? Quote:Tough construction: One HP-12C was used by a zoo keeper to calculate feed mixtures. The zoo keeper dropped the calculator and it was consumed by a hippopotamus. The calculator survived the hippo's digestive process as well as the washing that followed. Kind regards Thomas |
