HP-12C Platinum EOL?
I am well aware the HP 12-C is one of HP's longest selling calculators (since 1981), and so I highly doubt HP is killing it off. Even so, the 12-C Platinum product page lists it "OUT OF STOCK," which I find extremely odd because it is found easily on Amazon. Also, other calculators on the HP website have a "FIND LOCAL RESELLER" button. You would think the same button should also appear on the 12-C page even if HP's store is out of stock, seeing other vendors still have stock.
So I'm not sure what to think about the 12-C. Is it out of production? Is the processor going to change again, resulting in another 12-C variant? I'm especially curious about this because the last standard 12-C (not "Platinum") calculator had an Atmel ATSAM4LC2CA-AU processor with ARM Cortex-M4 core that supposedly runs 100 times faster than the original 12-C. However, the current (and newest version) 12-C "Platinum" (F2231AA) has a slower GPLB31A processor that is only 6x faster than the original 12-C. This leads me to wonder if the "OUT OF STOCK" message on HP's 12-C Platinum web page indicates a newer version that will sport the same ARM M4 processor as the last edition standard 12-C (which is no longer sold). Any thoughts? Thank you. |
