Immediately after the following, Chrystal launches into a proof that e and pi are irrational, which is not pertinent to this topic. So I'm afraid that he doesn't actually present a method for solving the desired system (unless I'm staring at his text the way that the apes stared at the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey).
