I did try the small screw method since I did have some around. It can now make contact, and when I hook a voltmeter to the two screw posts, I do get current when I plug in the charger. What I don't have though is a good battery pack, so I ordered one. I seem to recall that HP's won't run without a battery, so I'm hoping that is why the LED's don't come on when plugged in and powered on without the battery. I'll find out in a few days.

I wish I knew you were going to plug a charger into it, as like Steve said, its a big "no-no" with a dead or missing battery. There is a guy on the Bay (warerhosko IIRC) where the battery packs are pretty good.

If with the charged battery it doesn't light up - you can push around the spaces between the keys. Some of the Spice series have non-soldered connects which need some "encouragement to reconnect.

Taking them apart is a whole different adventure and I hope you do not have to go there.
