I won't go into much detail about the lead up. It's honestly not that interesting.

Negotiations with SM have been difficult. Both sides had demands that were immovable. Mostly, it was small points. Having the name WP 43 instead of DM 43 or WP 43S. The choice of symbol on the division key almost torpedoed everything. These were worked through and compromises made by all parties.

Then there was an event at Allschwil which I've only heard about third hand and thus will not comment further.

The final sticking point was SM wanting to avoid potential reputation damage [ edit by moderator].
