claims to use the algorithms in the proof but produces a different & correct answer.

That is because there is a choice in the first digit i.e., the constraint is x1+y1=9. I try to return the three palindromes in descending order i.e., x >= y >= z so I select the value 5 for x1 and 4 for y1. On the website you have pointed to, he has done the reverse.
