As you mention, I think the big drawback with repurposing the HP10bII+ will be its limited 12 digit 7-segment display. Any project worth doing would probably be too much work for such a limited display. The HP 20b/30b platform at least had a small dot matrix section to use for text which the WP34s/31s project used to good effect.
