For now let's be safe on the first pivots. Your changes had a noticeable speed improvement. Hard to tell when adding more tests, but timing only the first 6 seemed to be a lower number than what I remember. I uploaded a new source file with your changes, but I've moved the IF art THEN inside of simplex(). The tests errored when it was inside simplex_core. simplex_core assumes it doesn't need to set anything up. I think we should keep it that way, at least for now.
