Max, it's not the pricing policy, per se. It is the high quality of product that creates a high price point.

The original HP-12C is surely one of those high quality products from HP, right ?

Quoting William M. Kahan:

So you see, they were selling it for more than 600% its actual cost. This probably applies to most other classic models as well.
