My DM32 is currently running DB48X, but I'm pretty sure the result is zero: both DM32 and DM42 use the Intel decimal floating-point library, specifically the 128-bit data type. That encodes 3 decimal digits on 10 bits, wasting 24 values out of 1024. DB48X uses a similar trick, but with variable-length encoding, which allows it to compute pi to 400 decimals with ease. And of course, DB48X can be installed on the DM32. And at least on DB48X, I can guarantee with 100% certainty that the above sequence gives you zero. |
