I’ve noticed if one ticks the box for Intelligent Math on Page 2 of the settings and when one say type in 1/2 it will show it as a fraction as expected but I found I needed to hit the [a b/c] three times before displaying it as 0.5 press it only once to go back then more than once to go back were not ticking this box in the settings will show 0.5 and as a fraction pressing this key only once each to toggle back and forth.
