That's AFAIK the only difference between the ET-3850 and ET-4850. The ET-4850 has fax capability. The cost delta is surprisingly large.

I think the OfficeJet Pro 7740 actually had (before it failed) slightly higher quality output than the ET-3850, but not enough to justify the much higher price of the HP ink cartridges. (Even aftermarket cartridges for the HP are much more expensive than the genuine Epson ink.)
