The indicator ring can be set to indicate the width of the nib, so B fir Broad in my case. It's trying to follow a design that probably makes more sense when it's for pencil leads, since it's not intended to keep changing the pen nib. The cap seals and seats well, but I leave it off when in use just for the balance.
