This reminds me of something I saw years ago about running a keyboard through the dishwasher and letting it dry thoroughly. I had an old white Apple keyboard I liked the feel of that was grungy — not the little slim line things they have now, but one of the post iMac pre now keyboards — and figured I’d try it, because my wife at the time worked at Apple and I figured if I ruined it I might be able to get her to wheedle someone out of a new one.

Of all things, it worked like a charm. It got all of the finger oils and gunk off, all of the crap between the keys, and just worked for another several years.

There’s no way I’d seriously recommend that anyone try it, but it was a fun experiment and a pleasant surprise.
