Years ago, on the TWIT podcast, I heard Leo LaPorte tout this method. I had a $80 white Microsoft natural keyboard that had gotten grungy (I used it at work on my Windows machine) and so I thought I'd give it a go.
It didn't work out so well for me. Yes the keyboard got clean, but I went from zero key press issues, to having two keys that began not registering key presses unless you gave a very hard press.

No big loss, it was a cheap(ish) keyboard, but I'll never put another in the dishwasher.
Glad it worked out okay for you, though.
