Internally, that was coded the way it was in order to support more then plain integer arguments (complexes, lists, etc). We've added a special path for integers to ensure that 15 digits will be used. Thanks for pointing that out! As a side note, there were lots of functions in the 48 series coded in a similar manner that would only do 12 digit calculations because internally it was just calls to a series of userRPL functions.
