I think the new functions on the arrow keys, UPDIR, HOME, BEGIN, END etc., are so intuitive, they could exist in parallel.

The idea is to recall or change system settings with the On-as-a-shift method. However, there's at least one problem: you can't change settings while in the command line editor, as pressing On cancels the edit.
I'll have to think about a workaround for that.
