Hmm, at usd$30 and free shipping, relative to ~usd$50 for a used 82240 on ebay, you might could even just make an HPIR-to-USB adapter, thereby turning that printer (or others) into a 82240-compatible for roughly the same cost. No battery opeartion, though.
It's not handsome, but it is cheap. Probably quieter and faster; I think it is a line printer.
