Regarding the memory error. When creating the MingW version of the code I had to make all of my fopen calls include "b" in the mode for binary. Under windows this matters - it does not matter under linux or under the avr code "b" ok to add but does nothing else. The error happens when ready LIF directory records - the read expected 32 bytes but returned 29 - closing the LIF structure and causing the error down stream.
