If free42 would release a new version that breaks compatibility, and all has to be written again, with even less functions because it is new (for example, no solver, no matrix, etc.) people won't use it so quickly.

Free42 has slightly augmented HP42s catalog and kept backward compatibility, not to mention the year-after-year polishing job, which has turned this app into a reference.
The point is whether Thomas Okken has any plans to move forward with a 4-level stack by means of a bigger screen. This has been heartly welcome by SM's DM42 beta testers.
Embedding XCAS seems major surgery, doesn't it?
