HP-50G case puzzle

this isn't on my earlier (2010) device... other than that cases seem identical.

Do they share the same back casing as 49G+?

I used to believe the older 50g units have this, and newer ones don't, but your suggestion that only the newer ones have it seems to be confirmed by my units.

My machines show:
CNA634xxxxx, NO (2006)
CNA702xxxxx, NO (2007)
CNA229xxxx, YES (2012)
CNA231xxxx, YES (2012)
Blue 50g, no s/n, NO (no idea of year of mfr; I had assumed these were later than 2010, but perhaps not)

Also, I have 3 x HP49g+ machines that do not have this on the case back, which also supports the idea that older machines do not include this, which is contrary to what seems intuitive.

"HPK" is the moniker for Hewlett Packard Korea, though I've never heard of any involvement of HPK in calculator development, so this is probably not related.
