Seems completely spotless inside. No battery leaking ever as near as I can see. I will still try to clean the display contacts.

Hello Carl, may I ask what your result was, please? Did anything help?

Recently I happened to get a similar if not the same display problem. Yesterday I replaced the batteries, did a pretty thorough cleaning and used a hair dryer - to no avail. The last attempt was baking the display in around 70 °C but no luck :-(
