Technical paper about Hiawatha Crater Less technical article in Science I am slightly confused about the discussion of the energy. The paper gives a mass of about 1.4*10^13 kg, about a sixteenth of Halley's Comet mass, and an impact velocity of 20 km/s, so a kinetic energy of about 2.7*10^21 J, or about 650,000 Mt. The Science article states the energy as 700 Mt. Maybe someone mistook gigatons for megatons? |
