I tried this in emu48, degree mode, but cannot reproduce your problem.

[Orange] [7] for Num. Slv
Pick 1. Solve equation [Enter]

Eq: '-16.1*(15/COS(X))^2 + 800*SIN(X)*(15/COS(X)) - 2000'

X: 0 [SOLVE] → 29.4603650656
X: 60 [SOLVE] → 70.0019571424
