Yes, I heard this, and the "TI-92 II" display is almost as bad as the 48S/SX ))))

Usable.. just... to think back in the day we accepted this as normal, in good brightness usable, even slightly dim and it is terrible, the 2004 TI-89 Titanium I have is a little better, and the 2010 Casio FX 9750 GII (mid range graphing) is like another world (beautiful bright LCD) as is the HP-50G (almost as good).

Mostly use the HP-28S however and for a 1988 calculator the contrast is usable even in dimmer light!
