RE: What do you do with your 95LX/100LX/200LX?
I didn't know Skyglobe. I've downloaded the files and quickly read the manual (but not installed it yet). The program plots 29000 stars. These bright stars have been well known for a long time. Since the Hipparcos satellite mission, the accuracy of their position and magnitude has been improved, but these refinements are not perceptible on celestial maps. Calculations seems based on Jean Meeus book, which is still the reference today. Discoveries concern closed double stars, comets or asteroids, but these objects are not displayed by Skyglobe, so I don't think it is obsolete.
Anyway, for a portable planetarium, nothing can beat SkySafari on a smartphone or a tablet, especially the Pro version. Such a power is not accessible to calculators or palmtops. Jean-Charles |
