Does the PS/2-like cable end appear to be home-made, or at least not factory-made, with a different type of strain relief than the other end?

It could be a cable for use with a Mac - back in the day, Macs used a similar-looking connector for serial ports. I don't recall the pin-out for those cables, but it's pretty likely that's what it's for, since in the early 90's that's about all you could connect an HP-48 to, besides a PC.

Does the connector look like it will fit the HP-HIL plug shown here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/84/Hp_hil_adapter.jpg ? Maybe HP made some cables for connecting to HP-made workstations or non-IBM compatible PCs via HP-HIL.
